Liberty Revitalization in Process through NC Step Grant

Liberty, NC is one of 11 small communities across the state to receive a NC STEP grant from the N.C. Rural Center.

The purpose of the grant is to spur economic development and revitalization through job creation.

Art Jackson, director of the NC STEP program explained how the process works.

"The grant of up to $100,000 is to the town," Jackson said. " But, you find the need and develop the plan.  We help you to do that.  Anyone who considers this home - customers, residents, business owners - is welcome to get involved and plan Liberty's future."

The two-year endeavor starts with a planning process that is followed by an implementation period where ideas become reality.

Trees NC has been actively involved in environmentally focused  revitalization programs in Liberty for several years, including public tree planting for the downtown area and public library, litter pick up activities with youth, and advisory services regarding dispute over the health of historic oak trees located on city owned property.
