Building Community Through Gardening
/
The Trees NC Senior / Youth Garden is helping build community in Asheboro, NC. Located on the grounds of a historic Rosenwald school, now converted into a unique housing complex for senior citizens, the garden is a project that has grown from the simple idea of "returning to the roots of community."
"This is something that the residents are thoroughly enjoying," said Addie Luther, a Trees NC board member who is a long time leader in Asheboro's East Side Neighborhood. "They are thrilled to have this garden, they are sharing the foods - it is fantastic."
Thanks go to the many organizations and individuals who have helped make the garden a success!
A special thanks to Garden Coordinator, Deb Andrews, Youth Coordinator Robin Breedlove, Randolph Hospital Community Health Foundation, The Park Foundation, NC Civic Education Consortium, Resourceful Communities and Community One Bank.
