Through the generosity of a local landowner ( and tree lover ) Trees NC's Youth Environmental Service program ( YES!) is coming to Liberty.
The project began when an anonymous resident contacted Trees NC with the offer to donate two acres of grass land for the purpose of creating a new stand of trees.
When notified of this opportunity, Trees NC co-founder Tim Womick immediately thought of bringing youth into the project.
"The tree planting offers a great opportunity for youth in the Liberty area to take an active role in their community, while gaining skills related to the proper method for planting and maintaining trees," said Womick.
Currently, plans are underway to schedule a site evaluation and long term plan for maintenance of the new grove.
Trees NC will provide leadership for the project, designed to help build local leadership of the young Trees Liberty team.
