Planting a Healthy Future for Our Children

To build a better community, collaboration is the name of the game.

To help provide a better future for our children, Trees NC is supporting the Preventing Obesity by Design project.

The project is the result of a partnership between Natural Learning Institute at N.C. State University, N.C. Partnership for Children and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of North Carolina.

Trees NC volunteers were invited to attend a workshop last year to learn about this innovative program that aims to reduce the trend toward childhood obesity through enhancing outdoor play areas and educating child care center directors and teachers.

As part of a pilot project, volunteers from Trees Asheboro and Modern Woodmen of America gathered recently at Precious Memories Preschool for the center's outdoor work day.

In a few years the trees that were planted will provide shade, natural beauty and an educational opportunity for children in Randolph County.

Thanks goes to all the folks who have spent years to develop and support this innovative program! Together, we can help create a better future for our children.
